Alpha Chi is the oldest and most prestigious honor society at Belmont University, and induction into the society is the University's highest academic honor awarded. Membership is by invitation only as determined by faculty endorsement of character and intellect of junior and senior students ranking academically in the top 10 percent of the University.

Belmont University recently celebrated scholastic achievement with its annual Scholarship and Awards Day, an event held each spring to recognize top student talent.

A group of 35 Belmont University students chose to participate in "Immersion Trips" over spring break to contribute to the community and focus on personal reflection.

The following students achieved the Dean's List at Belmont University for the Fall 2015 semester. Eligibility is based on a minimum course load of 12 hours and a quality grade point average of 3.5 with no grade below a C.

Belmont's College of Sciences and Mathematics hosted its 12th Science Undergraduate Research Symposium (SURS) Dec. 3 featuring more than 55 students. Participants presented research posters in biology, biochemistry and molecular biology, neuroscience, environmental science, chemistry, physics and honors-psychology. An additional 24 individual and group oral presentations in psychology were included in the event.

Belmont students recently performed in the "Christmas at Belmont" concert at Nashville's Schermerhorn Symphony Center, a performance which was taped live and will air nationally this holiday season on PBS. Hosted by two-time Grammy winner Kathy Mattea, more than 700 student musicians joined Belmont School of Music faculty and the Nashville Children's Choir for the taping of "Christmas at Belmont."

As part of Belmont University's "Maymester" Session, eight students traveled to Pine Ridge, South Dakota to study the history and culture of the Western U.S.

More than 300 students traveled abroad during Belmont's "Maymester," an opportunity to obtain academic credit while exploring the culture, history and sites of a fantastic destination.

A class of Belmont University students have join their professor, legendary musician and The Turtles founding member Mark Volman, for an East Coast run of the "Happy Together Tour" for the third consecutive year. The tour's "classroom" and schedule include one tour bus, a precious few hotel rooms, long hours and many stages--for two and a half weeks and a grade.

Belmont University's delegation to the Tennessee Intercollegiate State Legislature won Best New Delegation at the recent meeting of the collegiate mock legislature tournament. The delegation drafted a bill altering the landscape orientation of licenses for drivers under the age of 21, making it decreasingly likely that a retailer, for example, would mistake the age of a customer.

Five Belmont students recently received recognition for the quality of their poster presentations at the 123rd Meeting of the Tennessee Academy of Science. The goal of the Tennessee Academy of Science is to promote scientific research, communication between researchers and the diffusion of knowledge concerning science in Tennessee. Students had the opportunity to share their work with fellow students and professors at colleges and universities throughout Tennessee, including Vanderbilt, Lipscomb

More than 800 Belmont University student musicians, singers and faculty along with the Nashville Children's Choir perform in the nationally televised airing of "Christmas at Belmont." Hosted by internationally renowned mezzo-soprano Denyce Graves, the annual production of traditional carols, classical masterworks, world music and light-hearted seasonal favorites will premiere on PBS on December 20 at 9 p.m. Central.

Belmont University recently announced the selection of the first six McWhorter Society Scholars. The McWhorter Society, which was formed in 2013, consists of members of the Nashville area community who are engaged in healthcare and the business of healthcare, and who choose to support future healthcare professionals from Belmont University.

Eight students were recently selected to participate in Belmont University's charter "Boulevard Team," a group of students who were chosen following an application, interview and skills test to assist the Office of University Marketing in the planning and implementation of Belmont social media and digital marketing initiatives. Applications were open to all Belmont undergraduate and graduate students with skills in content planning and creation for social media, web and video.

For the second year in a row, Belmont's University Ministries office led a team of students on a "Fall Break Plunge," a three-day mission project Oct. 12-14. The Plunge is an allusion to the University's annual "immersion" spring break trip program, which is designed to give students the chance to be immersed in God's world in various destinations, experiencing God's work in a number of contexts. The Plunge enables participants to get a taste of what a week-long mission trip could be.
