Ardmore, AL Native Participates in 2015 Sundance Film Festival

2015 Mar 4

Shelby Goldsmith of Ardmore, AL (35620) recently traveled with 17 other members of Belmont University's Service Corps and Film Society to the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah. Participating students volunteered, performing duties ranging from taking tickets to escorting filmmakers, and saw behind the scenes of one of the world's most influential film festivals. In their free time, students watched panels and films not yet released in theaters.

Additionally, students had the chance to meet and connect with film industry professionals as their educational experience branched far beyond the classroom. Participating students were grateful for this hands-on opportunity and many said their time at Sundance was invaluable. Senior motion pictures major Hilary Bell said, "There is no greater opportunity for an aspiring filmmaker than to be around people who are in love with movies...Sundance is a constant reminder of what an exciting time it is to be a part of this industry."

Junior entertainment industry studies major Rachel Knapp said attending Sundance has been a longtime dream. "Attending the Sundance Film Festival has been a dream of mine for years and I'm incredibly thankful to Service Corps for allowing me to do so. The experience and knowledge of the inner workings of such a prominent festival are something that I will carry with me in my pursuit of a career in film/ television."
